Chapter 2.5: Lulu's Choice
That night, Jeanette awoke from a boringly peaceful slumber to hear voices outside the small hut that she was allowed to sleep within. Peeking out from the cloth doorway cover, she could see Wakka and Lulu standing by the bonfire outside. Listening carefully, she could even manage to make out their words. Apparently, they were arguing.
“What you sayin’, Lu? It don’t make sense.”
Lulu’s eyes narrowed in irritation. “I am simply saying that I feel it would be better for your friend to come with us to Kilika and possibly to Luca. She’s more likely to find someone she knows there, or at least something that will jog her memory and help get rid of the Sin Toxin.”
Wakka scratched the back of his head. “But why? ‘Snot like you ta take such a kind interest in a stranger, ya?”
Lulu hesitated for the briefest of seconds before responding, “It will not be any burden to us. It’s safer for her to travel with experienced fighters such as Yuna’s guardians, and sooner or later she would be sent to Luca anyways if her memories do not return.”
Wakka shrugged. “I still dun understand what ya--”
Lulu scowled, annoyance now clear on her face. “Enough, Wakka! I will pay her fare for the ship. She comes with us, and I am done speaking with you on the matter.”
With that, she turned and left in a huff. Wakka shrugged, resigned to puzzlement, and left. Jeanette went back to her rest with the satisfaction of knowing one thing:
Regardless of how she might feel for Jeanette, Lulu wanted her around. It was a nice and even a little exciting feeling.
