Lulu's Big Surprise!
Chapter 3: "Lulu's Big Surprise!"
“I have something important to tell you.”
Jeanette looked up from the Kentuchi Fried Chocobo on her plate in interest. She had wondered why Lulu had suggested they privately go to the Spira-famous restaurant in Luca. From what Jeanette had seen of Lulu so far, she wasn’t usually one for typical restaurant fare.
Oh, yes, Jeanette had been watching her rather carefully. Ever since they’d left Besaid, Jeanette had found herself watching Lulu intensely, trying to find out what the aloof woman liked and disliked, preferred and avoided, all her interests and anything else about her possible. Whether battling Sin on the ship or simply assisting Yuna with her trials for Ifrit, Jeanette had found herself almost constantly observing Lulu and trying to stay as near to her as possible. She almost couldn’t help it, really…this woman somehow made Jeanette almost forgetut aut all else.
“What is it, Lulu?” Jeanette asked. She had long since changed her attire since leaving Besaid, and was now clothed in her typical Geomancer outfit. This consisted of a satin choli top which covered a small but effective armor plate for protection, a pair of white stockings under some comfortably loose pants, a demure set of soft but durable slippers, a sash which wrapped around her arms, and a pair of gold snake armbands for good luck. The pants and top were gauzy with a light, simplistic rainbow of soft swirling colors on them. The most important part of this ensemble, however, was the golden tiara fixed firmly atop her head. This seemingly meaningless accessory greatly enhanced her spell-casting abilities, and was a major reason for why she had been an important part of the battles with various fiends, the Sinspawn, and the recent Al Bhed kidnappers since leaving Besaid.
Lulu tried (as usual) to look as disinterested and emotionless as possible, and (as usual) showed visible difficulty in doing it around Jeanette. “I’ve spoken with Yuna and the other guardians. We’ve come to a general agreement that we’d like both you and Auron to become guardians to Yuna.”
“Really!?” Jeanette exclaimed in pleasant surprise.
Lulu gave a small smile at the reaction, then quickly hid it. “Yes. You’ve proven several times to be a useful ally in combat, and until you remember who you really are, it’d probably be best to be with people you can trust. Besides, I, er, we like you.”
Jeanette was taken aback at this offer. She had very much wanted to find a way to continue journeying with her new friends and the woman of her dreams (not to mention Auron, who Jeanette wanted to explain quite a lot about the situation). And even if it had been a slip-up, Lulu had said she liked her! Jeanette was embarrassed to admit to herself that the words gave her a warm, fuzzy feeling, and she had trouble preventing herself from grinning.
“I’d love to!” Jeanette exclaimed. On a whim, she suddenly leaned across the table and caught Lulu in a quick kiss. Their lips meant, and for a moment, Lulu relaxed into the oral embrace. Then, she quickly seemed to remember where she was and realized what was going on, and quickly broke the kiss off. Jeanette looked at her in disappointment and was bemused to see the strong woman in utter emotional confusion. No attempt to mask it was even made.
“J, Jeanette, I, um, I don’t, uh, we shouldn’t, sh, shouldn’t, um, I mean…”
Unable to even complete one sentence, and beet-red at her cheeks (an amazing sight, to be sure), Lulu got up and walked to the door. She turned around at the exit, and, still flustered, managed to make out, “Um, we guardians should be going…Yuna will want tave ave soon…”
The black mage exited the eatery, and Jeanette sat dejected in her seat. Why? What was she doing wrong? Lulu felt a connection with her, she just knew she did…why was she so afraid of letting it show? Maybe it was because she still felt something for Chappu? Bah…love was so complicated. Jeanette missed the days of simple lust and seduction already.
Oh well. She’d keep trying, now that she could. Lulu was worth a little work, after all! Determined, the geomancer left the restaurant to go with her new allies
