Death of a Turk

Sephirena sat at her desk, in her own office. She enjoyed being a Turk more than anything in the entire world, except for the weekends with Tseng, which were always fun. She looked at the clock, it was early in the morning.

Tseng stood in the doorway of her office early that Thursday morning. Morgan wanted to talk to her about a special mission her and Tseng would go on.

Sephirena stood up, “Sorry, had to finish that report.” With that, the two of them went to the briefing room where they would learn about their mission.

“Morning Sean.” Sephirena nodded sweetly, and Tseng nodded too.

“Okay, you two... I know that you have both been Turks for a good while...” Morgan said.

“Almost three years,” Sephirena said.

“Yes, but this is by far the most dangerous mission I am sending you on... you have to protect the pregnant first lady.” Morgan sighed.

“And that’s dangerous?” Tseng asked, he had been a Turk three years, and it didn’t seem so dangerous being a bodyguard for a pregnant woman.

“Yes, there has been several death threats on her, and as much as I have begged her, she still insists on going to Junon to this woman’s benefit dinner. She has asked for two body guards to protect her in the delicate state she’s in. So, seeing as you two aren’t injured from the last mission... you are both elected.” Sean Morgan said.

Sephirena nodded, “Yes. Sounds like a decent mission.”

“Yes... you leave tomorrow at sunrise.” Sean said.

Sephirena smiled as her boss left her office, then Sephirena returned to some paperwork she was doing.

Sephirena was washing her newer uniform in the company laundry room when Tseng found her.

“Hey.” he said.

“Hey...”

He brought his lips to her in a sweet kiss, “Are you nervous about our first real mission?”

“Yeah... I mean, we’ve been on missions before... but not one with just us two.” Sephirena punched the button to turn the washer on.

“I guess this means that a three month anniversary date tomorrow night is out of the question then...” Tseng laughed. He motioned to the dot that adorned his forehead now, as well as the matching one that adorned Sephirena’s head. They had been secretly married for only three months. They both thanked Shiva that nobody else had mentioned the dots, for if they had, they’d be... in trouble to say the least.

“We’re going to be on a mission, so no.” Sephirena said, smiling, “You’ll have to take a rain check on that one...”

“I’m a bit nervous...” Tseng said.

“What?”

“Can’t a guy show his feelings once in a while? I just said I am nervous.” Tseng said, sitting down on an empty chair.

“Well, I guess... but why are you nervous?” Sephirena said. “You are a much better Turk than I am.”

“Bull shit.” Tseng said, lighting up a cigarette.

Sephirena walked over to him and grabbed the smoke from his lips. “You know I hate that you smoke...”

“Yeah... sorry... a bad habit I picked up after training you know...”

“Yeah...” Sephirena took a drag off the smoke, inhaling the smoke and handed it back to him. “You started that habit after our ‘first date.’”

“What a hell of a first date that was...” Tseng smirked as she handed the smoke back to him. He took a deep inhale and placed the smoke on the nearby ash tray. Then he reached up and pulled Sephirena onto his lap.

Sephirena smiled at him as she snuggled against Tseng, “Hmm?”

Tseng’s lips caught hers again in another deep, sweet kiss. “You know how much I care about you honey?”

Sephirena nodded, “Do you think we should tell someone? I mean... about us?”

“After our first real mission... tomorrow we leave for our mission, how about when we return?” Tseng nuzzled against her, his own hands slowly running down her back.

“Tseng? Do you want to...” Sephirena whispered in his ear as she felt his hand rub across her suit jacket.

“Yes... I am always wanting you... my dear sweet love.” Tseng smiled.

“I love you Mr. Wulong...” Sephirena said, removing her navy blue suit jacket as she straddled his lap.

“I love you too... Mrs. Wulong.”

It was early the next day, and both Sephirena and Tseng were accompanying the first lady to Junon. Both Tseng and Sephirena wore their crisp, clean bright blue Turk uniforms on the Buggy.

“The banquet is going to be at noon... so we should be there about an hour before hand.” The first lady, June, said. She was about seven or eight months pregnant with the only son that President Shin-Ra had. She was jolly, and always joking with the Shin-Ra Blues and the Turks. She was the only person that had any idea about the two young Turks that were traveling with her. She talked to them.

“So, Mr. Wulong.”

“Yes Madame?” Tseng said, looking sharp.

“Call me June, please, you are willing to die for me, but not willing to call me by my real name?”

Tseng nodded, “Very well June...”

“How long have you too been... you know?” June asked the two.

“Three months.” Tseng said, then quickly added, “Please don’t tell your husband...”

June laughed, “Wulong, I barely see my husband, and I wouldn’t tell him about some Turks following their heart, besides the whole ‘Turks shouldn’t marry’ is a horrible rule.”

“You think so?” Sephirena said.

June nodded. “Yes, so have you two thought about having children?”

Sephirena blushed, “I would like to, but the job doesn’t allow for maternity leave.”

Tseng nodded, “She is so affectionate about this job, I couldn’t take her away from it...”

June laughed, “I see...”

“Yes. Tseng, you didn’t answer her question.” Sephirena smiled.

“I know...er...I would love to have some children.” Tseng said, blushing.

Sephirena smiled.

June smiled, “I think I may have to have a talk with my husband about you two...”

The rest of the buggy ride was in silence, both young Turks hiding their nervous glares behind their dark sunglasses.

“Madam President! Madame!” A report tried to talk to the president’s wife, but Sephirena was standing on the side he was on, and stopped him, by holding up a hand as a warning to back off.

Tseng was on the other side of the two women.

“Madame! Madam President!” The reporter tried again, and again, Sephirena held up her hand to tell the man to back off.

Then, it happened.

It all happened in the blink of an eye, and Tseng couldn’t stop it.

The reporter pulled a gun out of his suit jacket. Sephirena saw this and reached for it.

The man fired off three rounds quickly. Tseng heard the shots echoing in his mind, and there was nothing he could do but watch.

One shot hit Sephirena millimeters from her heart, between the heart and her lung, the second shot hit her through and through in her abdomen, and hit the first lady in the liver, the third shot hit Sephirena in the arm, as she was moving to disarm the man.

The bullet proof vest she wore didn’t stop the bullets at such a close range. They barely slowed as they ripped through her body.

Tseng saw Sephirena take all three shots, still trying to disarm the man. Several Shin-Ra blues stepped in and grabbed the man.

Tseng grabbed the injured first lady and carried her to the standing by ambulance. Tseng made sure she was alright then turned his attention to the now fallen Turk, his wife.

Tseng kneeled down and lifted her head up, she was breathing slowly and shallowly. Blood trickled down her mouth and she was coughing up blood.

Tseng grabbed his PHS and called, “Turk down, we have a Turk down, I need an ambulance...” He wanted to sound strong and fearless, but his voice came out nothing more of a whisper, a broken sound came out of his mouth. Then he dropped his PHS and grabbed his handkerchief, trying in vain to wipe up some of the blood that was pouring onto Sephirena’s lips. Her blood stained his suit as he held her in his arms.

“Don’t you die...” Tseng whispered, “Please... don’t die Sephirena...”
