Fear
Chapter 6: Fear
When Lorelai and Reno rushed to the medical unit they were a mess. Lorelai was barefoot, she didn't put her blazer back on, a button was missing on her shirt and her hair was messed up. Reno wasn't looking better, his shirt was totally openned, shoes untied that had made him trip a couple of times in the halls. He was talking on the phone when they entered the dark room. Zack was lying on his back, tubes all over him. Cloud was turning his back at them, he had his face buried in his hands, shoulders shaking from the quiet crying. The young woman dropped her hand on his shoulder. He turned around and burried his face in her neck. She bit her lip to avoid starting to cry with him.
- What did the doctor say?
- He said that the wound on his arm got infected and that he's in a septic choc. His heart has trouble beating properly.
Lorelai's cell phone started to ring. Leave it to ShinRa to always phone in the wrong time.
- Steel.
She rubbed her forehead as usual when we was pissed off but had to maintain composure.
- Yes Reno's with me.... ok we're coming up.
She looked up at Cloud and shook her head to stop the tears from dropping.
- I've got to go see Rufus but as soon as I'm out of his freaking office, I'll come back so you can get some sleep.
The blonde trooper nodded. She bent down to kiss her brother on the forehead and hugged Cloud before she and Reno left the building to go to Rufus' office. When they walked outside she realized she didn't have her boots on.
- Don't worry babe, I've got an extra pair in the car.
They entered the quite old and bumped car. As soon as the doors closed the red-haired Turk left the parking in a hurry. Exactly twelve minutes later they were in the ShinRa president's office. He gazed at them and frowned.
- Where is gone the dress code?
- The what? asked Lorelai
- Dress code, his shirt his openned, yours his ruined, no blazers and you don't seem to be wearing your own boots.
Reality was slipping in her mind, her twin brother, her only family may die, while Rufus was talking about their appearence she was craving to go sit by her twin, see him open his eyes and gave them some kind of shitty reason for not healing his self.
- ARE YOU LISTENING?!
- I... I'm sorry, I need a leave.
- Why?
- Because my brother's in coma and anyway I've got the paperwork for a maternity leave done.
- You're pregnant? From who?
She handed out the file she had completed, as he read it he frowned. Reno was the father, he would want a leave also.
- I can't put you both on leave, I need you guys.
- I can't figth in my state.
- No but you can do paperwork.
- I NEED a leave. My brother may die!
- Your brother won't die.
Rufus calmed down.
- Are you two getting engaged in any way?
- We're having a kid that's not enough? answered rudly Reno.
- Normally I should force you to marry her Reno.
- I know, it's in the ShinRa rules.
- But I won't if you don't want to. Here's what I'm offering you. Lorelai you'll be doing paperwork until you're 30 weeks pregnant. And I'm taking you off duty until your brother wakes up. Reno you'll get a 4 months leave one before the birth and the three other one after.
- Thank you.
- Now go back to see your brother, Reno sorry but you'll have to get dressed properlly and leave for a mission.
- I'll phone you later, he gave her his car keys and kissed her deeply before she leads off to the medical unit.
